What is Tungsten?

Tungsten is a very high density refractory metal that is very resistant to corrosion. Tungsten has the highest melting point and highest tensile strength of any element, with extremely low vapor pressure even at high temperatures. Tungsten wire is used as filaments for lighting, electron tubes, electrodes, high-temperature furnace parts, probe pins, Tungsten (W) offers exceptionally high strength and good electrical resistivity at very high temperatures.

Tungsten is ideal for many applications, specifically medical, but it's also commonly used in electrical applications as well such as making electron emitters. The tensile strength of Tungsten wire is extremely high and usually increases as the gauge (diameter) of the wire get smaller. Unalloyed Tungsten is often regarded as being very difficult to machine and fabricate. Ulbrich can provide this material down to be .0005" and with tensile strength over 400 KSI. Due to its' high temperature strength, tungsten can be used in many heating elements.
