Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals Celebrates Wallingford Expansion and New Stretch-Bend-Leveling Line

On Thursday, June 18, 2026, Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals celebrated a 14,500-square-foot building expansion at its Wallingford facility and the addition of a high-precision Stretch-Bend-Leveling (SBL) line with a groundbreaking ceremony.

The expansion marks another milestone in Ulbrich’s continued investment in Wallingford, home to Ulbrich Specialty Strip Mill and Ulbrich of New England. The additional space will help accommodate the new Stretch-Bend-Leveling line while also adding a new cafeteria and training center for employees. Together, these investments will strengthen Ulbrich’s ability to serve customers across demanding markets while supporting the people behind its precision manufacturing operations.

The new SBL line, developed by Burghardt + Schmidt GmbH, will incorporate advanced technology to support the processing of a wide range of stainless steels, nickel-based alloys, titanium, and other specialty alloys, including ultra-light-gauge strip. It is designed to help correct shape deviations that can occur during cold rolling and will feature automated process-control capabilities. This level of precision is critical for the markets Ulbrich serves, including medical, aerospace, and automotive applications.

“This investment reflects our commitment to strengthening Ulbrich for the future while continuing to live our purpose of Improving Lives with More than Metal,” said Jon Ulbrich, CEO. “The building expansion and Stretch-Bend-Leveling line will enhance our precision strip capabilities, support our employees, and help us continue delivering the quality and consistency our customers expect.”

“What makes this expansion meaningful is what it represents for our people and our future,” said Chris Ulbrich, Chairman of the Board. “I’m proud to see Ulbrich continue investing in Wallingford, our employees, and the kind of manufacturing capabilities that will help us grow for generations to come.”
