Chris Ulbrich Talks Steel and Success on the "Made in America" Podcast

A few weeks back, CEO Chris Ulbrich sat down with Ari Santiago of the “Made in America” podcast. Each week, Ari Santiago interviews a thriving local manufacturing leader and discovers the secrets to their success. Through this podcast, listeners can learn great tips and the best practices as leaders tell their personal and business stories to discover the strategies they have used to start, develop, and grow their business. Chris was thrilled to be featured in this captivating podcast.

Chris and Ari discuss how Ulbrich’s rich history and positive company culture have kept our business so successful for the past 96 years. Learn how Ulbrich began in 1924 as a scrap metal company, being awarded the army musket knife contract during WWII, to manufacturing cutlery for diners across the country during the 50s, and the up and downs of a precision steel manufacturer within the ever-changing economy. All of this has brought us to where we are today. Chris explains how Ulbrich keeps our almost unheard of 1-2% turnover rate so low with a company culture that focuses on taking care of their employees and evolving with the current times. Additionally, Chris touches on the concept of Conscious Capitalism, community engagement and the benefit of learning from others.

“Innovation and change is crucial to being in business and being successful in business over the long haul. I think Ulbrich has a very interesting history of that, as we mentioned 96 years and counting, and I think just the story we’ve talked about. Going from scraping of cars, to making the metal that goes into solar panels, speaks to how you’ve successfully able to traverse huge changes in the economy over the last hundred years.”
